Wednesday Night Prayer Summary, August 11

Wednesday Night Prayer Summary, August 11, 2010

Matthew 8:23-26
When He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered with the wave; but Jesus Himself was asleep. And they came to Him and woke Him, saying, "Save us, Lord; we are perishing!" He said to them, "why are you afraid, you men of little faith?" Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it became perfectly calm.

Jesus was with His disciples and the storm still came. Just because He is with us does not mean that storms will not come; rather, HE is the way to overcome the storm. God is glorified by getting us through the storm. Because of Him we have the authority to speak to those storms. The rebuke Jesus said was essentially, "don't you know who I am?" We HAVE to know who He is. We have to have the faith that He is with us in storms, because He is.

What happened:
When we came together on Wednesday night at Penny's to pray, addressing needs in our body became the dominant prayer topic. After worshipping the Lord (singing of how GOOD it is to trust in Him), we shared what was going on with us and then moved into prayer for those things. We did not break into smaller groups, but rather prayed as one big group, and prayed for hurting and ill family members and friends, children starting new schools, major-transitions, and the UGA body. After we finished praying, Cindy and Grace both heard Psalm 23 from the Lord, which speaks of the goodness of the Lord and is full of so many promises. It is so special that what is of concern to us is of concern to the Lord. Take your burdens to Him, for He cares for you!
